Inclusive Excellence Academy (IEA) Workshop: DIB IEA 1006 An Inclusive Approach to Leadership

 Workshop Overview:

“Inclusion is not a strategy to help people fit into the systems and structures which exist in our societies. It is about transforming those systems and structures to make it better for everyone.” – Diane Richler, chair of Inclusion International’s Catalyst for Inclusive Education.

Did you know that, according to research cited by the Harvard Business Review, “What leaders say and do makes up to a 70% difference as to whether an individual reports feeling included”?  Transforming how we approach leadership can result in more inclusive experiences for staff, thereby increasing organizational performance.

In this course, we’ll reimagine leadership by moving beyond seeing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as mere checkboxes on our to-do list. Instead, we’ll focus on applying an inclusive mindset to all aspects of our daily work and engagement with others.

Participants will:

  • Discuss evidence-based reasons why embedding an inclusive approach in leadership and management styles will enhance employee engagement and retention;
  • Explore the traits and behaviors that reflect an inclusive leadership style; and
  • Generate tangible ways to apply an inclusive approach to demonstrating each of the Cornell Leadership Skills for Success.

This course is ideal for anyone who leads individuals or groups in some capacity (i.e. supervisor/people leader, project manager, shift or unit lead, committee/workgroup/board chair, etc).
